Head Coach Roger Downing, Steps Down

Bel Aire, KS (November 4, 2025) – Wichita Wings head coach, Roger Downing, has stepped down ahead of the 2025-2026 season. Downing has served as Wings head coach since September of 2019 when Wichita joined the Major Arena Soccer League 2. 

Under five season with Downing the Wings qualified for the post seasons 5 times, losing once in the national championship match and 4 times in the semi-finals. 

"Roger has been everything we could've wished for and we want to give him the thanks he deserves," says Wings managing partner, Blake Shumaker. " 

"He's really a great person and the team results have been a direct reflection of his leadership and care. We truly appreciate his time and commitment to the Wichita Wings and the local soccer community as a whole. As Roger steps back to focus on family and a growing business, we wish him all the best." - said Shumaker. 

The Wichita Wings are prepared to announce a new head coach on Wednesday, November 4th.

The 2025-2026 conference season begins on December 28th when the Wings host the Minnesota Blizzard. The preseason kicks-off on November 15th and 16th when the Wings lace up the boots for the first time in 6 months as the Wings welcome an old rival, the St. Louis Ambush.
