Bel Aire, KS (November 5, 2025) – The Wichita Wings are proud to welcome home Wichita native, LeBaron Hollimon, as our new head coach.
Hollimon was born in Wichita, where he grew up playing soccer and graduated from Northwest High School in 1987. As a local player, LeBaron was named to the 50th Anniversary All-City team.
Hollimon attended Eastern Illinois University, playing on the men's soccer team and was later drafted by the Tulsa Ambush in the second round of the 1991 National Professional Soccer League ("NPSL") draft. In 1992, the Wichita Wings selected Hollimon in the supplemental draft when they entered the NPSL, making Hollimon the first native Wichitan to play for the team.
"The Wings are very near and dear to my heart," said Hollimon. "I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to work with this version of the Wichita Wings. I want to continue building the Wings brand and get people excited to support this team by putting an exciting team on the field and in the community."
During his seven years with the Wings, Hollimon made six playoff appearances. He also finished in the top five of every major statistical category in his career in Wichita. In 1999, the Wings traded Hollimon to the Edmonton Drillers where he played the 1999-2000 season before signing with the Kansas City Attack.
In 2011, Hollimon was named head coach for the Wichita Wings, a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League. He coached the team for two seasons before the Major Indoor Soccer League folded.
Wings managing partner Blake Shumaker believes the organization is heading in the right direction.
"LeBaron is much more to the Wings than a coach or even a player, he's a lifelong fan", said Shumaker. "LeBaron and I have given our time to it for the same reason. It represents the hometown, a personal love for the game, a city's memory with their friends and family, a big professional soccer history, and of course opportunities for players. This addition keeps us on an upward trajectory, adding an amazing person and coach to our prior facility announcement. We are excited to be heading forward with a combination of operational experience, playing and coaching experience, and a strong passion to get back into the community to make a lasting impact."
The 2025-2026 conference season begins on December 28th when the Wings host the Minnesota Blizzard. The preseason kicks-off on November 15th and 16th when the Wings lace up the boots for the first time in 6 months as the Wings welcome an old rival, the St. Louis Ambush.
The following week Wings coaches will finalize the 2025-2026 season roster with open public tryouts. Tryouts are November 29th at Wichita's Edge. Tryout registration is open now.
