MASL 2 Honors: Second Team All Stars
Major Arena Soccer League 2 has selected its post-season honorees, with the second team of all stars revealed today by Commissioner Chris Economides.
In the coming days, M2 will announces its "Elite Six" first-team of all stars, and league awards including MVP, Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year.
Following are the six members of M2's Second Team:
>Forward Jared Robbins, Wichita Wings. Robbins was a key member of the Wings who finished third overall in M2 following an impressive 10-2 regular season record which included a seven-game winning streak prior to the post-season. Robbins knocked in 16 goals and was one of the league's best playmakers with 17 assists, which was tied for second in all of M2.
>Forward Rodolpho Valenzuela, Club Deportivo de Baja California. The first-year Tijuana, Mexico based side proved to be one of M2's better teams, with Valenzuela being one of their top players, and leading scorer. His best game of the year came in early March when he netted five goals in a win over the Turlock Express.
>Forward Bruno Henrique, Iowa Demon Hawks. Henrique, a veteran of two seasons of MASL play with the Florida Tropics, was one of many offensive threats for the team that will be moving to Des Moines next season. Henrique finished fifth in goals with 21, and added 12 assists for 33 points, tied for fifth best in M2 as well. He too had a five goal game, his coming Jan. 8 against the Iowa Raptors, his best effort of 2022-23.
>Midfielder/Defender Francisco Rivas, Colorado Inferno. One of the league's premier playesr for a number of seasons, Rivas came to life following a coaching change for the Inferno, and ended up as the league's fourth leading scorer with 22 goals and 12 assists. His 22 goals was second best in his career, short of the 29 goals he had in 2020-21. In his career, he has appeared in 73 M2 regular season and playoff games, with 140 goals.'
>Midfielder/Defender Kevin Alvidrez, Amarillo Bombers. Alvidrez was an offensive threat from the backline as Amarillo's offense was the best in M2, helping it reach the league's Championship Weekend. His 17 goals was most for any defenseman in the league, with two of them being game winners. Amarillo's 10-2 record was best in the four-year history of the team, and tied for best in M2 this season.
>> Goalkeeper Rainer Hauss, Iowa Demon Hawks.. Hauss, who helped lead the Florida Tropics to the MASL 2021-22 championship finals, was tied for fourth in the league in wins with 6, third in goals against average (5.66) , and first in saves percentage at an impressive .813.
