ST. Louis Ambush Launch MASL 2 Team For '23-'24 Season
The St. Louis Ambush, members of the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), are launching a team in North Americas second tier, the The St. Louis Ambush 2 will kick off action in the Major Arena Soccer League 2 (MASL 2) for the 2023-24 season, the team announced today.
M2 started in 2017 and serves as a development league for the MASL. The league is the second division in the MASL pyramid, which also includes Major Arena Soccer League 3 (MASL 3). M2 had 15 teams for their 2022-23 season. Ambush 2 joins recently-announced Atletico Orlando as a new addition to M2 and more expansion may be on the horizon during this off-season, according to M2 Commissioner Chris Economides.
"St. Louis is one of the premier indoor soccer markets in the history of the sport, so we are thrilled to welcome them to M2," Economides said. "The Ambush have some of the best ownership in the MASL, and they have grown the right way, in a responsible, professional, manner over the last 10 years. The franchise is without question poised to take great steps forward, with M2 being a key part of their future. "
The current Ambush franchise celebrated their tenth season in 2022-23 and continues to grow with the addition of their developmental squad. The St. Louis Ambush 2 will play their home games at The Family Arena in St. Charles, which has also been home to the Ambush since 2013.
Ambush co-owner, GM and head coach Jeff Locker said, “M2 fits our plan to build a complete organization that will compete for a league title. Adding a Director of Scouting last season reaped a lot of benefits. Now adding this layer will provide us another platform to identify and develop players.”
Ambush co-owner and CEO Shelly Clark said, “If you look at the history of St. Louis indoor soccer, many teams were built on local talent. We hope that by adding our own developmental team in M2, we can provide another avenue for homegrown talent to sharpen their skills and work towards becoming a professional indoor soccer player.”
Upcoming announcements regarding the Ambush 2 website launch, head coach, player signings and schedule will make for a busy off-season for the club and fans alike.
